01 / SALT FROM SEAWATER

Sea salt.

Salt made by evaporating seawater. [1]

The source and the method

Morton describes seawater concentrating in ponds before salt crystallizes as more water evaporates. It is one production method; each producer profile records the process described for that particular site. [1]

Follow the origin

Gaucho Provisions describes its Patagonian sea salt as coming from Atlantic seawater off Chubut, Argentina. Our Patagonian guide separates that operator-reported origin from product formats and shopping links. [2]

Grains, flakes and flor de sal

Product styles sit alongside origin. Cornish Sea Salt describes crystals and flakes; Salmarim describes flor de sal from Castro Marim in Portugal. These names help distinguish products within sea salt rather than separate water sources. [3] [4]

Flavours and blends

Ingredients and finishing add another distinction. Saltverk’s lava salt contains activated charcoal, while Gaucho’s chimichurri salt combines sea salt with herbs, garlic and chile. Check the individual product rather than treating a colour or flavour as a source category. [5] [6]
