ORIGIN GUIDE / ARGENTINE PATAGONIA

Patagonian sea salt.

Explore the origin, product formats and businesses behind the name.

An origin within sea salt

Gaucho Provisions describes the sea salt in its Patagonian range as originating from Atlantic seawater off Chubut, Argentina. This is the business’s account of its range; it does not establish the origin of every product sold as Patagonian salt. [1]

The 2024 Argentine food-code amendment introduced “Sal Marina Argentina” for crystalline salt obtained by evaporating Argentine seawater. That national category is broader than a Patagonian origin and does not identify a particular producer. [2]

What the name tells you

Sea salt describes the seawater source. Fine grains, flakes and seasoned blends describe different formats. Gaucho presents Sal Fina for cooking, flakes for finishing and Chimichurri Salt as a blend with herbs, garlic and chile. [3] [4] [5]

Producer coverage.

We have not yet published a site-specific Patagonian producer profile. The business and product links below are separate from our producer listings; they do not identify a salt farm.
