THE PLACE
Salt with an address.
Lera is the active northern production area within Sečovlje Salina Nature Park. SOLINE distinguishes these working pans from Fontanigge to the south, where the landscape and Saltworks Museum preserve a different part of the site’s saltmaking history. [1]
THE METHOD
How the salt is made.
SOLINE describes moving seawater through evaporation basins into crystallisation beds. Saltmakers maintain petola, a cultivated layer on the bed that separates the salt from mud. They rake the salt with wooden scrapers, let surplus water drain, and gather it by hand for transport and storage. [2]
Process described by the operator; method categories are editorial groupings. Not independently inspected.
