THE PLACE
Salt with an address.
At Añana, natural springs supply brine to a terraced saltworks. The foundation explains that rainwater passes through underground salt-bearing layers before emerging as saline springs. [2]
THE METHOD
How the salt is made.
Shallow brine is spread over horizontal beds and exposed to sun and wind. Workers collect surface flakes or stir the brine to form salt on the bed. The harvest drains in baskets before storage, cleaning and packing. Production follows the weather; maintenance continues outside the harvesting season. [1]
Process described by the operator; method categories are editorial groupings. Not independently inspected.
