THE PLACE
Salt with an address.
J.Q. Dickinson makes salt on its farm in Malden, West Virginia. Its source is underground brine brought up through a well, rather than water collected from the present-day sea. [1] [2]
THE METHOD
How the salt is made.
The operator settles the pumped brine, then concentrates it in beds inside sun houses. It moves to crystallisation beds before the salt is hand-raked, separated from the remaining brine and dried on cloths. Packaging and labelling are done by hand. [1] [2]
Process described by the operator; method categories are editorial groupings. Not independently inspected.
